A clean whiteboard

I left dinner instructions on a whiteboard for my family and then headed out to run errands. At the end of the night, I went to wipe off the whiteboard—and the words remained. Oh no. I had used a permanent marker instead of a whiteboard marker.

That’s when I remembered a tip shared on Facebook. I traced over those permanent letters with a whiteboard marker and—amazingly!—the permanent marker came off. 

The same happens in our lives. The sins (the permanent marker in this story)—angry words, drunk nights, arrogant pride, hypocrisy, affairs, addictions, lies—leave stains on our lives.

Thankfully there’s good news for that too. Jesus (the whiteboard marker in this story) covers them. Now when God looks at us, the stains—amazingly!—are gone because “the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).

Let’s be realistic though. We might feel some nagging guilt every day. We still have to live with consequences from our choices. We do the same stupid things again (and again and again), even though we know better. 

Does Jesus really cover those things? Yes.

Is he going to run out of patience? No.

Why? “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22,23).

Every day, thanks to Jesus, you have a clean whiteboard.
