A full recovery

In an NFL football game, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez (now a FOX Sports analyst) made a remarkable catch. The momentum of this catch carried his rather large frame forward, and he came crashing down on one of the cameramen on the sidelines. The cameraman was knocked unconscious and taken immediately to a hospital. Tony felt terrible and after the game phoned the hospital to check on the cameraman. The doctors at the hospital ran some CAT scans to see if there was any damage to the man’s head. Fortunately, there was not, but as they performed the tests, they found two small tumors growing in the man’s head. They were able to catch the cancer in time, and the man received the proper treatment and made a full recovery. Tony was quoted as saying, “I’m a firm believer in God and that he has his hand in this.”

Had Tony not hit this man, the man would not have realized just how sick he was. The man certainly had a reason to be thankful to Tony and to God.

First Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances.” We too have a reason to be thankful. We were dead in our sins and deserved eternal death. The cancer of sin infested our bodies and would have claimed all our lives. But God, in his mercy, sent his Son to share our humanity, to take our place, and in turn gives us the full recovery treatment of forgiveness, peace, joy, and the hope of eternal life.
