Do you have a location in your life where you always go when you are stressed? have a really tough decision to make? took some abuse? suffered a defeat? Maybe there are woods where you like to walk. Maybe you get in the car and drive somewhere. Anywhere. Maybe you go down in the basement with the lights off and think in the dark. Maybe you head for the bedroom, burrow under the covers, and go into the fetal position.
There is also a place in your mind where you can always go when life is overwhelming you. Through your faith in Christ, the great power behind the universe has adopted you as his son or daughter. When you come to him humbly, dragging your burden, you will always find a warm welcome, a listening ear, and heavenly omnipotence at your service. “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him” (Nahum 1:7).
Just talk to him. Your prayers don’t have to be long or flowery and eloquent or formal or perfect. Just talk to your Daddy, commander of the angel armies, chancellor of the treasury, Ancient of Days. Talk to his Son, Jesus, crusher of the head of the serpent, firstborn from the dead, lion of the tribe of Judah. Call on the Spirit, Counselor and Giver of heavenly gifts.
Give it all to him, and then let it go.
