My workplace has an amazing cafeteria. There are so many options: the mainline options, a salad bar with anything you could want, rotisserie chicken, Mexican food, a stir-fry line, eight types of ice cream, and on and on. Is your mouth watering yet? The best thing about the cafeteria is that I can pick and choose only my favorite things. I don’t have to eat the brussels sprouts if I don’t want to. Sorry, Mom!
The cafeteria approach works for food, but not for God’s Word. Every word counts. Every word has your salvation in mind. Maybe you know the Ten Commandments by heart, but is each commandment firmly planted in your heart? Which commands of God have you taken the cafeteria approach to?
Listen to God’s will for your life and remember why it’s so important. God wants you to take every law word seriously so that you will take every gospel word seriously. He says, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Jesus has rescued you from every sin, not just some of them. He presented the payment he made for you on the cross to the Father. And the Father declares, “You are not guilty.”
There is no condemnation for you because God condemned his own Son in your place. Let the news that we stand before God as innocent because of Jesus motivate you to consume every word he speaks!
