A mission that’s worth it!

Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations . . . and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19,20).

But it’s hard to tell people about Jesus, isn’t it? I think William Carey would agree. The year was 1793, and William Carey kept asking, “Why is no one sharing the gospel with the millions of people in India?” And his friends said, “That’s a great idea, William. Why don’t you do it?”

And he did. He left behind a comfortable life in England to go to a land he’d never seen with languages he’d never heard to share the message of Jesus with millions of people who had never heard it. Not only that, if they did listen, it would mean that they would suffer social disgrace and be cut off from their families. He had no place to live and no place to work when he landed in Calcutta. The odds were not in his favor.

But he preached anyway. He preached for six years, and no one came. Finally, after seven years and learning seven languages, God blessed him with one convert—Krishna Pal. Was it worth it? Well, today there are over 28 million Christians in India. God doesn’t ask us to be successful. He asks us to share the message, assures us of his presence, and promises to take care of the rest. Who can you tell in your mission field today? It’s a mission that’s worth it!
