Would you sacrifice your life for your spouse? Of course! But would you sacrifice your pride or your preferences? Sometimes not. Are you willing to live for those you claim to be willing to die for? Jesus said, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown” (Revelation 2:10). Are you willing to die for Jesus? Remember, it is more difficult to live a martyr than to die one.
You and I can think mistakenly that being faithful is like taking a $100 bill and laying it on a table: “Here’s my life, Lord. I’m giving it all!” However, for most of us, being faithful means sacrificing 25 cents here and 25 cents there.
Doing the right thing at work or at school, as unpopular as it may be, instead of taking the easy way out … 25 cents. Saying the right thing to a friend living in sin and really loving them instead of trying to avoid the ridicule of your “narrow” way of thinking … 25 cents. Holding to God’s promises even when everything in life seems to be falling apart … 25 cents. Admitting that Jesus is more important than sleeping in, time with friends, popularity, sports, weekends away, family relationships … 25 cents. Usually remaining faithful is done by all those little acts of standing with Jesus, 25 cents at a time. Thank Jesus that he was perfectly faithful in our place. Now you and I want to be faithful to him. Now the victor’s crown of life awaits!
