The math doesn’t work. 1+1+1=1 What? It doesn’t add up. God clearly reveals he’s three. Three distinct, individual persons: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Yet these three are one. Just one God. The triune nature of God is one of the most confusing characteristics of our Lord, but it’s also one of the most comforting. Do you know why?

There are multiple analogies to define what’s nearly indefinable: how God is three yet one. There’s the state of water as gas, liquid, and solid; yet it’s still water. There’s the three-leaf clover; three individual leaves yet one plant. Those can work, but they lack comfort. They lack the why. They lack the purpose of God being three yet one. And when you know, what clarity and comfort it brings!

Each person of the Trinity has focus over different portions of your life. God the Father rules and reigns over the PRESENT so you need not fear what’s happening right now. The Father’s got it! God the Son rules and reigns over your PAST, protecting you from your sins so you need not fear what you did back then. The Son’s forgiven it! God the Holy Spirit rules and reigns over your FUTURE, protecting you into your future so you need not fear what your future holds. The Spirit’s guiding it!

Your triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—protects you in your present, from your past, and into your future. How blessed you are by your loving triune God!
