An acceptable time

God has a particular plan in mind for each of us. He always works the circumstances in our lives for good. Sometimes it can be hard to see the good immediately. But waiting on God and his timing is much easier when we trust him—when we know that although we are dangling out over the ledge of life, God has us by the hand and won’t let us go.

In Psalm 69:13, David wrote, “But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness” (ESV). His trust in God was strong, even during severe trials, because the foundational work of building a relationship with God had been done. David had practiced meditating on the works and promises of God. He knew that the deliverance and the answers he sought would come from God “at an acceptable time.”

Try spending a few minutes with this section of Scripture. Let your mind and heart stay with it. Read it again and start to picture what these words meant to David, what his frame of mind might have been as he was writing them. Read it a third time and consider how these words can bring comfort and understanding to your own life. This is your own foundation work.

Ask God to let his words soak into your soul. Talk with God about the ways you are trying to understand his “acceptable time” in your life. May your time together be blessed!
