Angels: God’s limos

What’s the best ride you ever had? A big touring motorcycle? Luxury coach? Hot air balloon? Wedding party bus? Stretch limo? First-class cabin on a big plane? Nothing you have ever experienced before will compare to the ride you will get from God’s angel limos.

When a believer dies, Jesus says that the angels will carry the soul straight to heaven: “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side” (Luke 16:22). And then when judgment day comes, while some flee in terror, the believers will look up longingly and welcome their angelic escorts. We will be “caught up . . . in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air” (1 Thessalonians 4:17). What a thrill!

These angels will enjoy their work. They are rooting for us—they rejoice over even one sinner who repents. Although their speed and power make them seem like our bosses, in fact they were made to be ministering spirits, serving God by serving the people God made. How wonderful it will be when we can finally see them, learn their names, and thank them for their millennia of work on behalf of the human race. The stories they will be able to tell!

For now they toil on, invisible to us, battling the evil one and his legions of demons. Soon, soon, comes the Day. Lift up your heads in the confidence of Christ and be ready.
