How big does a problem have to be before God is interested in it?

I wonder about that sometimes when I hear children bring their prayer requests to God. They can offer the most genuine prayers about the smallest things. As a dad, I remember deliberating at one point if I needed to teach my kids how to pray for bigger things that were on more of a God level.

But then I realized something. What seems small to one person can seem big to another person.

Maybe you have a “small” thing going on in your life. You think it’s so small that you haven’t even prayed about it. After all, why would an all-powerful God who is upholding the universe take time to hear about one of your little worries?

But he does care. It isn’t the size of a problem that gets God’s attention. It’s what a problem—big or small— does to your heart.

Are you really struggling over something that most people would consider small? Then God considers it big. What’s most important to God is guarding your heart: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (Proverbs 4:23).

What’s a small problem or a small worry that you can bring to God today? He will not judge you for coming to him with such a small thing. He is very interested in the little things that bother or shape your heart.
