Commitment to freedom

Today the U.S. celebrates the freedom that our country’s soldiers have won and fought to preserve for over 240 years. Thank you to all of those in the military, and thank God for committed soldiers! What do you suppose would happen if on the front lines of a battle, half of the soldiers decided not to participate in the fight? The outcome is easy to predict. It would be a disaster!

The Christian life is the same. There’s a battle to fight for freedom. There’s no room to slack and say, “I’ll get to learning and practicing my faith later . . . but, I’m still a Christian!” No, a Christian’s life calls for total commitment. Thankfully, we have a Savior who did not flee when facing the cross in our battle against sin and Satan. He was totally committed to our freedom. He sacrificed everything for us on that cross and died on the battlefield . . . so that we would be free. He was bound by death so that we might be free from it eternally! As Jesus himself said, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). You are free!

Let that motivate you to live in that freedom and strive every day to defend it with the Holy Spirit’s power! Let that move you to answer the Christian’s call to duty from our Savior with total commitment!

“Fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Timothy 6:12).
