Don’t give up without a fight!

“Thy will be done” (Luke 11:2 KJV). This can be hard to pray when we or those we love are facing dire circumstances. Perhaps, like me, you have sometimes approached God’s throne with an attitude of resignation, thinking you better just get ready to accept that God’s will might not be your will.

Yet Scripture tells us that the earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results” (James 5:16 NLT). And there are instances in the Bible where, it appears, God’s mind was changed.

When God wanted to destroy the children of Israel after they turned their backs on him and built a golden calf to worship instead, Moses pleaded with the Lord on their behalf and reminded God of his promises to them. So the LORD changed his mind about the terrible disaster he had threatened to bring on his people” (Exodus 32:14 NLT).

When the people of Nineveh learned that God was ready to destroy them because of their sinfulness, they repented, and “when God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened” (Jonah 3:10 NLT).

This doesn’t mean God will always answer our prayers the way we want, but it does teach us not to give up without a fight—to boldly remind God of his great power, mercy, and love.

“With God, everything is possible” (Matthew 19:26 NLT).
