Don’t just get by

A famous superhero claims that his shield is made from the strongest metal on earth. Nothing can break it! In Ephesians 6:16, the apostle Paul reminds us that we have something stronger: “the shield of faith.”

The object of our faith is Jesus, and he is the strongest of all. How much are you connecting to him? A small amount of faith saves, middle-of-the-road faith saves, and all-hands-on-deck faith saves because of the object of that faith—Jesus.

But for those of us who look to “just get by,” what happens when the wind and waves of debt, divorce, or depression come crashing? A faith like that may be penetrable.

I’m not saying the object of our faith lets us down, but our connection to him can be knocked a bit off balance if just-getting-by faith is all we strive for. Sometimes folks who had enough faith to just get by walk away from the faith when the first battle came to test them.

Stay connected! The fact that you are reading this right now is a great start. Continue to stay plugged in. What are other ways to connect? Prayer, personal Bible study or with friends, a Time of Grace video or devotion.

When the waves of life hit, and they will, you have the strongest defense. It’s not your works, looks, or bank account, which all fail or falter. You have Christ! He’s the real superhero, and by faith so are you!
