I read that an average person’s anxiety is focused like this: 40 percent on things that will never happen; 30 percent on things about the past that can’t be changed; 12 percent on things about criticism from others, mostly untrue; 10 percent on health, which only gets worse with stress; and 8 percent on real problems to be faced.
Wow! According to that, only 8 percent of worry is “legitimate.” Jesus offers you something even better: Zero worry! Worry is the opposite of trust. Worried about not having what you need? Should you be? God promises to make all things work for our good, he promises to provide, and he promises to take us to heaven. What do you have to worry about? Literally, nothing!
“Do not worry about your life. . . . But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:25,33).
God paid the ultimate price for you! He bought you with the priceless blood of Jesus! Look at what you already have. You’ve been given a gift that’s more precious than all the gold in the world: faith in God’s Son. You’ve been given the rock-solid assurance from the mouth of God that he will care for you during the speck of time you spend here in this life. You have been given the kingdom of heaven for all eternity.
Worried? Neither am I!
