Eternal life insurance

Millions of people have found the security and comfort of investing in a risk pool (aka insurance). Modest regular payments guarantee that in the event of death the individual’s survivors will be compensated for the loss of the breadwinner. All of the major parts of our lives can be protected in this way—lives, homes, furnishings, health, and automobiles. Financial contracts like those allow us to live securely, without fear of financial disaster.

The Holy Spirit is your broker of eternal life insurance, and Jesus Christ has paid the premiums for you! Although you live in a broken world as a broken individual, although you are mortal and know that your time here is fleeting, although you are a sinner and are owed nothing by God, the Spirit brings you the unconditional love of your Savior Jesus.

“You also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:13,14). Your baptism initiated a new relationship with God. Through Christ he has forgiven all your sins and claimed you as his child. He has obligated himself to care for you and has made you an heir of heaven.

Your baptism is a deposit, a down payment. Soon, soon you will cash in that policy for the real thing.
