Even for me?

One of Satan’s biggest lies is to try to convince people that Jesus is not for people like them. They know what Jesus did, but it has no impact on their lives. They slip further and further from church and from hope, comfort, and joy as well. Maybe you’ve been there.

Remember Rahab? She’s not the most glamorous character in the Bible. She was a prostitute who helped some Israelite spies. She wanted to be saved by the God who would destroy her people. The spies told her to tie a scarlet cord in the window and she would be spared. Think this through. How could God be for her? She was a prostitute. She was a pagan foreigner. And she knew full well what this God did with the unbelieving nations. How could God be for her? Because our God is for everyone . . . and she knew it. “And she tied the scarlet cord in the window” (Joshua 2:21). What a beautiful act of faith!

What will be your scarlet cord today? What will you do that shows you know Jesus is for you? Can I encourage you to do something specific this week? Tell someone what Jesus means to you. If you’re holding a grudge, forgive as God has forgiven you in Jesus’ cross. When you look out at the people God has placed into your life, remember that Jesus is for them . . . even for you. Then hang your scarlet cord in their lives.
