Give thanks in ALL circumstances

Please reread yesterday’s devotion. There are often two ways of looking at a situation. Yes, that cameraman was fortunate. Yes, we have a reason to be thankful. But what about when life stinks? When you are alone or when you’ve tasted death or when you’re facing divorce or feeling left out? Pain and misery seem to hit you every day that ends in a Y. And who is God to tell you to “give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)? Really God? I’m supposed to thank you for the miserable patch of life I’m in currently?

Dear reader, when the world doesn’t seem to give us a break, we have a God who does and understands. It looked bleak for that cameraman as he was being carted off the field on a stretcher. However, good came from that disaster. God has something good planned. How do I know? “He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (Romans 8:32).

My assurance is that Jesus died for you and me, a full divorce from his Father. He was left alone on a cross with all the pain and misery we deserved. God’s love for you and me means we do not need to suffer being left out of heaven. Whatever the situation you are in, God has NOT left you. This is not some Pollyanna, feel-good, kitten-poster slogan. It is from a real God who really and truly loves you!
