God is your strength

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him” (Psalm 28:7).

Can you picture David sitting and composing these words? Mighty King David speaks out of the vulnerability and simple joy that is the posture of anyone, man or woman, who has learned to trust God’s all-encompassing faithfulness.

David says simply, “He helps me.” He doesn’t brag or speak about his own implementation of a plan to bring about the end of his problem. He is helped by God, his strength and shield.

David was a privileged person, yet his help was still in the Lord. You may be privileged in the world’s eyes. You may feel rightly that the world is against you and your back is to the wall. In the Lord’s eyes, you are precious, and he longs to help you.

Sit still. Ask the Holy Spirit to calm your distracted or frantic mind. Take a few moments and picture yourself writing David’s words. These are words that are true for you too. God is your strength. God is your shield. You are precious. You are helped.
