God loved you first

Did you know God has been pursuing you from the first? Don’t believe me? Read this: “Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you, even at my mother’s breast. From birth I was cast on you; from my mother’s womb you have been my God” (Psalm 22:9,10).

Long before your first remembrance of God, he looked at you, tiny in your mother’s womb, and couldn’t wait to see the person you would become. He knew you, loved you, and wanted to draw you into a loving relationship. He’s been calling you by name from the beginning.

Can you think of your earliest remembrance of God? Was it the first time you heard the story of Jesus and were in awe of his love for you? Or maybe God began making you aware of his presence through the beauty of his created world. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the works of his hands” (Psalm 19:1). Even as you see God’s hand in nature, his Spirit is wooing you and calling you to him.

Never underestimate how dearly God wants you for his own. He still works daily to draw you closer and to delight you with his goodness. Where will God show you signs of his love today? In his Word? In a neighbor? In a sunset?

O Lord Jesus, through your Spirit, give us eyes to see and hearts that believe that you have always loved us! Amen.
