I had zero idea what would happen the Saturday after the Tuesday that I released my book. Back on January 7, 2020, I released 3 Words That Will Change Your Life, a book about the power of God’s presence, how God is the refuge we can run to no matter how bad life gets. But I had no clue what would happen four days later. On the other side of the planet, on January 11, the first-known coronavirus patient died. And our world, as you now know, fell apart.
God must have known that we would need a safe place to hide when things were turned upside down. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging” (Psalm 46:1-3).
I love how graphic those final words are. Even when the earth gives way and the mountains fall apart (or when the economy gives way or your family falls apart), we don’t need to be afraid because we have God. Our refuge. Our strength. Our 24/7 help in times of trouble.
Maybe you’re reading these words today for a specific reason. Maybe God is preparing you to face the next season of your life, no matter what happens, without fear. Through Jesus, his presence is your refuge. Run to him today, and know that you will never be alone or unloved.
