Who is the expert you rely on? Whom do you call on when you need someone to show you the best way to live?

The writer of Psalm 16 arrived at an answer to these questions: The Lord is his expert and guide. His life experiences have proved that it is the Lord who is wise and who sets the best path forward. 

Listen to his realization and his submission to the Lord: “I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you. The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup’” (verses 2,5 ESV). When he looks at all the ways he can choose to live his life, he realizes that he wants to submit to the Lord’s guidance, protection, and plan. The rest of the psalm reads like a list of all the benefits that come from choosing the Lord’s way. It’s an overflow of richness!

There are lots of people who tell us how to solve our problems. Only God’s way is proven. Take time to pray and think. Do you really believe that God’s good way is the best way? Do you want to believe this about God but struggle to actually believe that it’s true? 

Sit in the quiet and ask the Lord to help you be honest with yourself and with him. He loves and forgives you. He will always respond with his Spirit to a heartfelt request, “Lord, I do want to choose your guidance above everything else. Please help this be my reality!”
