Good enough for God?

About ten years ago, I met a young woman who was a good person. I mean, a really good person. One of those people who got along with everyone at her high school—the athletes, the musicians, the math kids, everyone. Soon after we met, I asked her if she thought she was good enough to get into heaven. “I’m not sure,” she confessed. But she came to church and then to Bible class, listening to Jesus’ words, his standards, and his promises. Not long after, I asked her the same question I had posed months earlier: “Are you good enough to go to heaven?”

“Oh, I’m sure,” she smiled, a smile that reflected a change that had happened in her heart. She met Jesus, the real Jesus, the only Jesus who could make her not just good but Good, Good enough for God.

The earliest Christians put it this way: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). They believed that there was one name that could save them, the name of Jesus Christ their King.

So are you good enough for heaven? Good enough to have God think about you and smile? Good enough to live in his presence both now and forever? Through Jesus, the answer is an undeniable Yes! His name was given so that we could be saved from every spiritual danger and enjoy every spiritual blessing. What a name!
