Held together in Jesus

“You’ve got it so together!” Has anyone ever said that to you? If you’re like me, when you hear those words, your first thought is, “If only you could see what’s going on inside of me!” Truth be told, sometimes I have things anything but “together.” Is it the same for you?

The Bible says, “For in him [Jesus] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together(Colossians 1:16,17).

You see, we can’t hold anything together. We need only look at our frailties and insecurities and failures to realize that we can’t hold “it” together. But Jesus can. He’s the one who made all this. In him, it’s all held together.

Have you ever heard of laminin? It’s a glycoprotein that promotes cell adhesion. It’s not an overstatement to say it’s the glue that holds us together. Without it, we would literally fall apart. If you look at it under a microscope, you’ll see that it’s shaped like a cross. Isn’t it cool that the protein that holds us together physically looks just like the cross that holds us together spiritually?

Feeling unraveled as you look to the future? Remember that the One through whom all things were made is also the One who loved you enough to die for your sins. He’ll hold it together for you today.
