He’s up

Commercial insurance broker Sam Castronova posted the following on his weblog back in 2010: “To all my Brothers out there trying to win the battles! Be the kind of man that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says, ‘Oh crap; he’s up!’”

When I first read that quote, I couldn’t help but wonder what Satan says about me when my feet hit the floor each day. Sadly, I feel he might often say, “Oh well, she’s up again. No big deal. She poses no real threat to me.”

And that’s exactly how Satan wants me (and you) to feel. He wants us to think that we can never be the type of Christians we should be. He wants to sow the deadly seed of guilt in our hearts so that we may just want to stay in bed altogether.

But what makes Satan nervous is when we step out of bed, reminding him (and ourselves) that Christ has already given us the victory over him. And he trembles even more when we take our first steps with confidence, knowing that that the Holy Spirit walks with us and that “it is God who works in [us] to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).

Christ’s resurrection has already made the devil say, “Oh crap; he’s up!” And every day we step out of bed, we have the privilege of rubbing that amazing salt into Satan’s wounds.
