I get tons of compliments on my phone case. For years now, I have used a phone case that has a hidden space for a few business cards, my license, etc. Whenever I flip open that case and pull out a card, people are impressed.
I thought of my phone case when I recently read Paul’s stunning words: “And your life is now hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). I thought of my life like a paper business card—easily bendable, instantly creaseable. Then I thought of Jesus’ life like my license: tougher, stronger, and as close as can be. Then I thought about God like the phone case. Thick plastic hiding the cards stored inside. The result? My life is “with Christ in God.” My spiritual and eternal life is safe, because I am not exposed but hidden by the love and power of my Savior.
By the grace of God, Christian, your life is in the same place. Your salvation is not a flimsy business card waiting to be bent or creased or destroyed. Your peace and joy are not one rip or one spill away from being ruined. No, you are safe in God. Protected by his power. United to his Son. Wherever Jesus is, you are with him. And since Jesus is always with God, in a place of acceptance and approval, guess who gets to spend today in the light of God’s beaming face, his smile of approval, and his unfathomable delight? You!
You think my phone case is impressive? You should consider your place in the presence of God!
