Would you dig through 8 tons of garbage? One husband and wife did. The wife had taken off her 12.5-carat wedding ring to do the dishes on a Sunday afternoon. She didn’t remember the ring until the next morning. When she went to look for it, it was gone. She soon figured out that it must have fallen into the garbage, which had already been taken out and picked up by the garbage truck. The couple found the truck just minutes before it dumped its load in a landfill. The truck driver dumped out the dirty, stinky, who-knows-what-that-was trash onto the street instead. The couple jumped in and found the ring.
You don’t need to go to that much trouble to find something far more valuable. In the risen Christ, you have the God-given right to look at death and expect to find life. You have the right to know that even your greatest pain will not separate you from the greatest joy God can give any of his children. Easter is the priceless treasure of knowing that you’re going to be okay.
You only need to dig through the Word of God and look on any one of its pages to find the promises that will breathe life into your heart and soul, which are so often broken. That’s why we are told to “hold firmly to the Word” (1 Corinthians 15:2). In that Word, you’ll always find life, strength, forgiveness, and heaven. Because in that Word, you’ll always find Jesus.
