Sometimes my wife grimaces when I exit the bedroom in the morning. “What’s the matter? Doesn’t this match?” I ask. “Nope! Not even close!” She replies. That’s my cue to turn around and try again!
I wonder how often people who know I’m a Christian look at my life and grimace because I don’t match. That is to say, what I do and what I believe don’t always match. I say I’m a Christian, but sometimes others could rightly say of my life, “Nope! Not even close!”
That’s a problem. You and I need the right clothes to get into heaven. It’s like a fancy restaurant that requires the gentlemen to wear suit coats to dine there. Without the right clothes, you can’t get in! When it comes to heaven, nothing short of the perfection of Jesus will do.
Here’s God’s solution: “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ” (Galatians 3:27). Do you see what God’s done for you? He’s dressed you in an immaculate outfit. He’s clothed you with Jesus himself in your baptism! You’re right now wearing the most beautiful clothing ever, made from the threads of Jesus’ perfect life and woven together on the loom of the cross. Your clothes match the perfection of heaven. Now, when you look in the mirror today, you get to say (and mean it!), “I look good!”
