In our last devotion, we left Moses on a mountaintop with his arms burning. Each time he lowered them, the Israelites died by the Amalekites’ swords. But Exodus chapter 17 reveals, His hands remained steady till sunset” (verse 12). This was a planned battle that likely started in the morning. His hands were raised all day? That’s impossible. Or is it? God sent reinforcements. Moses’ brother, Aaron, and another man, Hur, sat Moses’ tired body upon a rock. “Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other” (verse 12).

Do you know someone who’s struggling? who’s crumbling under the load of what they’re holding up? Someone likely came right to your mind and heart.

How can you help? How can you be an Aaron or a Hur? Well, it takes two very key components to be a heaven-sent helper. You need presence. You need to be willing to step into the drama. Aaron and Hur made themselves visual targets of the Amalekites, but the cause and their care for Moses made it worth it. It’s worth it to help the person whose name came across your heart, but that means their mess becomes yours.

And you’ll need persistence. The devil knows what’s working to cause chaos, and he won’t give it up easily. But you hold the name of Jesus that makes Satan scatter and demons disperse. You come in the name of Christ, and in his name, victory is won!
