Jesus’ friends

Who is your best friend? Friends are people you can trust through thick and thin. A highlight from my childhood, and maybe yours too, was being allowed to go over to a friend’s house for the weekend. We’d have the time of our lives playing in the pool or chasing away bad guys from our secret hideout fort. What fun I had with my friends! You too? As we got older, forts may have been traded in for game night, cards, or watching sports.

My friends, Jesus is our Friend, and he has much more to offer than a tree fort or a swimming pool or game night. We truly are Jesus’ friends! “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends” (John 15:15). When you went over to your friend’s house as a kid, you were treated like a guest. You were given the best first. You were able to take the first piece of pizza. You were able to play with the best toy first. As Jesus’ friend, he has given you and me many gifts. By his death on a cross, we receive forgiveness of sins and the assurance of eternal life. Every time we go to his house, we are given the best. We are given the news of how much he loves us and how much he has done for us. Truly we have been given the best from our Friend.

Do you know someone who could use a Friend like that?
