Jesus, the servant

“If I had all-power, what would I do with it?” Have you ever mused as to what it would be like if God were to make you in charge of all things?

Well, Jesus was in charge: “Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power. . . . So he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist” (John 13:3,4).

And how did Jesus use that power?

He used that power to . . . wash his disciples’ feet. Washing feet was a job for the most menial servant. But who is washing feet here? Jesus, the Lord of all things, and he is serving in the humblest of ways. Well, maybe not the humblest—that would come less than 24 hours later as he served you by giving himself for you on the cross.

Marvel at the Savior you have. He’s a Savior who is willing to serve not just disciples, but you. Jesus served the disciples his body and blood for their forgiveness in the Lord’s Supper. Jesus wants to continue to take off his outer coat, wrap a towel around his waist, and serve you with that same comfort. Come and let him wash your feet. Let Jesus, the servant, empower you to be “(your name), the servant” for others in your life.
