There’s a comforting promise given by your Good Shepherd, Jesus, in Psalm 23 that’s often overlooked. In verse 3 David wrote, “He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” The right path. The needed path. Daily. Continually.
Verse 1 of this beautiful psalm connects the word pictures within to a shepherd and his sheep. Verse 3 is no different. Sheep can go months without drinking large amounts of water. Most people don’t know this; shepherds do. Shepherds rise early to lead sheep along right paths at the right time (early hours) to graze on dew-covered grass. That little water sustains the sheep. It’s just enough to sustain life until they are able to drink deeply from an abundant water source. But this small amount of water is needed daily.
You need to graze on the gospel-covered words of the Bible. Daily. Continually. Nourishment in the Water of Life sustains. Jesus guides you to it. There’s a thirst inside you for refreshment. Jesus satisfies your quench. He is always there for you, with you, leading you in his Word on the right path.
Here’s a refreshing sip of grace: “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord” (Acts 3:19). Live refreshed, forgiven, and knowing you are filled and fueled by the daily, continual mercy of Christ.
