Legacy

I’ve done lots of different things in my life. My resume tops out as a writer for Time of Grace. It’s been an extraordinary privilege to be part of this ministry. If I have a legacy, it’s in bits and pieces in a few hundred Grace Moments devotions. Each was a sincere attempt to put my faith, my education, my experiences, and my philosophy of life to work in a way that might be meaningful to you.

It could take a while before I know if it was worth it. For all of us who follow Jesus, the final assessment of our work won’t occur in this life. We’ll hear it when God reads out the celestial biography he is writing about each of us. “Then I heard a voice from heaven say, ‘Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them’” (Revelation 14:13). Somehow, someway, God will give us eternal glory and allow us to drag our earthly accomplishments with us. His grace makes our less-than-perfect efforts worth remembering forever.

I was startled when someone I didn’t know asked me if I was that guy who writes devotions. In heaven we’ll recognize each other immediately because of our glowing reputations. See you then. In the meantime, I hope I made you think, and I hope I made you smile.
