Like a swarm of bees

Animate things like bees, birds, and youth soccer teams demonstrate swarming behavior. They move en masse one direction and then in another in response to some kinetic murmuring felt by all of them. It is a natural law written large by the Creator of all things. If we had a God’s-eye view of the earth, we would see that even all of humanity can move like a swarm of bees. That is why God had the confidence so say, “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him” (Psalm 33:8). God wants the whole world to move in his direction.

Do you remember how Christians became a swarm? The risen Savior commissioned his ragtag band of followers to take the gospel throughout the world. People heard the good news, saw the signs and wonders of God, put it all together, and believed in Jesus in increasing numbers. The gospel still has tremendous influence in our world. There are a couple billion staunch believers in Jesus and countless others who appreciate him and his teachings. This is a pretty good track record for the Jesus movement. And it only took a couple thousand years to get this far. Jesus doesn’t always get the credit, but he is the reason for every act of decency and love that people express to one another. Let the swarming continue. When the bees break out of the hive, it’s on!
