Looking for the good life?

If you’re looking for a good life, listen to what Jesus said. John’s gospel is full of Jesus explaining what makes a person’s life truly worth living.

Jesus promised, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). We sometimes think of church and God and Jesus as places and people who restrict life, that have dos and don’ts and commandments that take time and energy out of our lives. But Jesus said his biggest goal is for you to have the fullest, best kind of life.

Was he promising you a functional family or your dream job? No, something better: “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). Knowing God is the secret to lasting life, as long as you are thinking of the true God, the God who is glorious, interesting, powerful, faithful, compassionate, loving, there for you always—that’s life.

How do you get a life like that, a God like that? “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me’” (John 14:6). While Jesus doesn’t promise health and wealth (yet), he is promising you a way to come to God, despite all your past sins and current struggles.

We all want a good life. Thankfully, Jesus is offering us just that, a life lived every day in the presence of a perfect Father. Think about that and you will find life to the full.
