Many rooms

Three-year-old Ellis loves to talk about heaven and who will be with her there.

My mom and dad believe in Jesus. Will they be in heaven?

Yes, Ellis, they will.

My grandma and papa believe too. Will they be in heaven?

Yup!

And my friends who believe in Jesus . . . will they be there too?

Yes! It’ll be SO great.

But suddenly Ellis looks a little worried.

How can there be room for everyone?

Maybe you wonder that too. Not for yourself, a law-abiding citizen, decent friend, and frequent churchgoer. No, you wonder how there could be room for that guy who comes to church smelling like Saturday’s bender or that teen who admitted she’s struggling with her sexual orientation. How can there be room—for them?

Or maybe you are that guy or girl, struggling with powerful temptations that keep getting the upper hand: “How can there be room—for me?”

Jesus pushes away any doubt about who will fit in heaven. His death paid for our holier-than-thou hypocrisy. It paid for the times we let temptation win. His resurrection assures us that our repentant faith in him is not a dead end but a door. And it leads to a mansion with room for everyone who clings to Jesus as their Savior.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. . . . My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:1,2).
