Meeting the real you

I can’t wait to meet my wife. I’ve been dating her for nearly 20 years now, which makes me ache for the day when we will actually meet each other. The same is true with my kids. After a decade of being their dad, few things get me more excited than the day when we will see each other face-to-face. In fact, I’m personally pretty excited to meet myself!

Huh? Are you worried about my mental health? Don’t be. I’m just meditating on Paul’s words: “When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory” (Colossians 3:4). Catch that? You will appear with Christ in glory. In other words, the real you, the glorious you, the you that God always wanted hasn’t appeared just yet. The brilliant you, the shockingly impressive you, the sinless you is about to make its grand entrance on the day that Jesus appears in the skies.

I can’t wait for that day! Imagine not just seeing the people you love but meeting the glorious versions of them. The versions that are bursting with joy and hope and love, the versions that have zero aches or pains or complaints or sins to spoil good days. Imagine meeting friends and family and heroes of the faith whose entrance into the room always increases your joy. Always. Just imagine . . .

No wonder the Bible ends with the cry of every Christian heart: “Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20). When the Lord Jesus comes, we will finally see his glorious face. And we will finally see your glory too.
