Moms, you are valuable to Jesus

“Mary … sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations. … ‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her’” (Luke 10:39-42).

Moms, this is not a devotion to tell you that you are worried over many things. Moms feel incredible pressure to provide for their families. But you are much more than your to-do list and the pressures of post-worthy pictures and idyllic family stories.

You are valuable to Jesus as a human being with a thirsty soul. You are capable of and need to sit at Jesus’ feet and learn from him. Jesus deeply desires to sit and talk with you. He looks at you and says, “Sit with me. Let’s talk, and you will learn from me.” One sister sat at Jesus’ feet, and Jesus defended her for doing it.

The time you spend with Jesus will be given back to you. God is so generous in this regard. Your priorities will shift and give you ease.

Only Jesus can fill our deepest longing. Let your mothering flow from that peace, free from self-criticism or criticism from others. You are one of Jesus’ most valued followers.
