The Bible says, “The complacency of fools will destroy them” (Proverbs 1:32).
Complacency means being entirely satisfied with where I am, even if it isn’t where I should be. It is the path of least resistance.
Complacency is the smoker who has had a heart attack saying, “I know I should quit,” but not doing anything about it. Complacency is the A student being satisfied with Bs. Complacency is a Christian accepting their level of biblical understanding with no concern for spiritual growth.
God’s wisdom calls out, “How long will you who are simple love your simple ways? … Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings. But … since you disregard all my advice … I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you” (Proverbs 1:22-26).
Christians cannot safely say, “I was baptized and confirmed and know enough about the Bible to be saved.” Christians cannot repeatedly ignore Bible study and worship and personal time in God’s Word and prayer without a disastrous result.
God forgive us for such foolish complacency in our Christian homes and churches. Respond to God’s rebuke and see his heart pour out to save you from complacency.
God promises to make his own, divine thoughts known to you! You are more than simple. You are wise with God’s own thoughts.
