Wedding feasts in Jesus’ day could be huge events that lasted for a week. The host provided everything. In fact, if the family was wealthy enough, they would even provide clothing for the guests! For a family to run out of wine was simply unthinkable . . . but Jesus was at a wedding in Cana where the family ran out of wine. Jesus could have left them to fend for themselves. Instead, he provided at least 120 gallons of the best wine! “The master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew” (John 2:9).
God continues to provide for you and me today. Just look at the clothes you wear, savor the food you eat, consider the house you live in. Most of us have heat, electricity, running water—we often take it all for granted! Some of us even have more than one vehicle, not to mention computers, televisions, and “toys.” How richly God has provided for us! Just as for that family in Cana, it is all undeserved. Jesus has not changed. The same powerful Jesus who turned water into wine has promised to care for you. No, he may not give you all you want, and you will at times have struggles, but he has promised to provide. And if he can turn water into wine, then he can and will provide for all your needs!
