I can’t imagine the decision Moses’ parents had to make. They were blessed with the joy of pregnancy while in slavery in Egypt. Babies are always a blessing, a gift, no matter the circumstances that surround how a baby enters the world. But the pharaoh felt differently. He commanded all the Hebrew boys be murdered at birth. “By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict” (Hebrews 11:23).
Not afraid? They didn’t fear the most powerful man on the planet? Countless babies were lost to his cruelty. Families that defied him were likely tortured to strike fear and obedience. But not Moses’ parents. By faith they followed God’s commands rather than fear the pharaoh’s wrath.
It’s extremely difficult to stand up for what’s right when that means standing against those who can hurt you. College tests are failed for expressing your faith. Job promotions are lost when you refuse to be unethical. Romantic relationships end abruptly when you refuse to cross the Lord’s boundary on sex. Lives have been lost for simply loving Jesus.
Don’t be afraid. Jesus can overcome every evil the devil deploys against you. Even if you lose your life, you instantly enter heaven! And the devil still loses! Nothing will separate you from the love of Christ. Nothing. When you face adversity—pray, trust, and step forward in faith for you never walk alone.
