Power up

Last winter we had a lot of snow, so much snow that we had an unexpected power outage. This isn’t normally a big deal, but when it happens in the depths of a Michigan winter, with 6-8 inches of snow on the ground, you get a little nervous.

As evening closed in and my family and I ate dinner by candlelight, we got even more anxious. And as the hour grew later still, I started to feel even more isolated and fearful. We brought in a large pile of logs to feed the fireplace through the night, and everyone got their sleeping bags and had a campout on the living room floor. The power was on again by morning, but it made me realize how much we take power for granted.

Do you ever do that with God’s power? I know I do! It’s always there—humming along in the background—so easy to underestimate or even forget. There are many times in life when we face difficulties. Life would be so much easier if we relied on God’s power, which is always there to nourish and protect us—a FREE gift from heaven.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us …” (Ephesians 3:20). Not only does God have the power to help us but “immeasurably more” than we can imagine!

The next time you need help, don’t forget about your main power source—God himself!
