A regret is when something from your past weighs you down in the present. How many regrets are you carrying with you today?

The impact they have is never good. Regrets can fill you with negative self-talk. They can take away your appetite. They can rob you of confidence. If left unaddressed, they can have a profound impact on your future.

But they don’t have to.

Jesus has taken away the power that your regrets had over you. I love how Paul put it in Titus 3:7: “So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”

By grace your past has been settled. Whether the regret you have is from an intentional sin or an honest mistake, it no longer has any legal power over you. You have been justified by grace. That means that even though your mind is telling you that you are guilty for something in your past, God’s gift is that he has declared you to be innocent.

And that has a profound impact on your future. You have ahead of you an inheritance that is so big it can only be quantified with the words eternal life.

In this life it is unavoidable to get your fair share of regrets. But what is avoidable is how much they weigh you down. Today when you are tempted to let something from your past weigh you down, let Jesus carry that weight for you.
