Sports fans nervously pace the room when their favorite team is losing. But when the team pulls out a last-second win, they get pumped. Their feelings go from anxiety to excitement.
On Easter morning, the women were sad and scared as they approached Jesus’ tomb. But then they saw an angel who said, “Remember [what] he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee” (Luke 24:6). What Jesus had told them was that they were going to see him delivered into the hands of sinful men. He would be crucified, and then on the third day he would rise again.
The women remembered and believed, and their hearts that were so heavy one minute became light and joyful.
They ran to the disciples and told them that Jesus was alive. The angel helped them remember the promise he made, and that promise made the difference.
What promise would the angel remind you of if he spoke to you today? “Didn’t God say that there is nothing in all creation that can separate you from him?” “Didn’t God say that you don’t need to worry about anything?” “Didn’t God say that all things work out for the good of those who love him?” “Didn’t Jesus say to his disciples that they would see him again?”
He did. And they did. Just like we will. One day we will see. But each day until then, the very best thing you can do is open his Word and listen.
