We have an opportunity right now to journey into the heart of God’s kingdom plan for us. Take a few minutes to quiet your mind with the Spirit’s help, and then dwell on these words: “How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light” (Psalm 36:7-9 ESV).
Can you picture yourself resting in the shadow of God’s loving protection? Can you picture God’s house, perhaps set in a green valley with light shining in the windows? Can you see the front door open and God inviting you inside to share a fireside dinner with him? Can you picture him handing you a sturdy-handled cup and encouraging you, “Here, drink from the river of my delights!” Can you visualize the fountain of life, the living water promised by Jesus himself?
What we are offered by the triune God is no less than a reservoir of new life that we can drink from right now and into eternity. Now, through Christ, we are invited to rest our weary selves and grow as new people, Christ’s followers in Christ’s kingdom.
This is reality: quiet springs of protection, rest, and renewal. In his light, we can see light.
