Rooted in Jesus

Last summer we planted pine trees on our property. A tree is a symbol of stability and of home. A mature tree on an old farm might remind visitors of the generations who have lived there and the roots they laid down. We planted our trees thinking of the shade or beauty they will provide.

“In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land” (Jeremiah 33:15).

We are rooted and established in God’s Word. Here we are safe and at home, a part of God’s family tree. In Christ this family tree is branching out. The church won’t be done growing until Christ returns. Be motivated by the love that this Righteous Branch showed toward you personally. He died for you! He died to give you life.

When Jesus told his disciples and us to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19,20), it wasn’t a chore or a command but a request by our loving Savior to reveal to people God’s love and promise to them in Christ Jesus. Each time the precious Word of peace and hope in Jesus is spoken in our homes, communities, churches, and neighboring nations, the “tree” branches out and grows. Stay rooted in the Word, keep your eyes focused on Jesus, and open your mouth to share the gracious promise and fulfillment our God and Savior has given to us.
