Stop playing it safe

I am a safety-holic and don’t take enough risks. I asked some guys at church if they wear safety glasses for yard chores like I do. They kinda looked at me funny.

Okay, so I need to skip my vitamins once in a while. I need to talk to people about Jesus with more passion and less concern that they’ll look at me funny. I need to trust Jesus more and my own control and comfort less. You need to trust Jesus more too. He called his disciples not to a sterilized, quarantined safety zone but to a stormy, life-changing mission.

Jesus appeared to his disciples, seeking safety in a locked room after he had died. “‘As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.’ And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven’” (John 20:21-23).

Will Jesus’ mission for you be safe? Actually, it will be a whole lot safer than you locking down the status quo and staying tied down to what makes you comfortable (so that you don’t need Jesus).

Jesus gives you three reasons to take more God-honoring risks for him. He is sending you so the mission is holy. He gives you the Holy Spirit so that God himself is in you. People need forgiveness, and you can assure them of it.

Stop playing it safe!
