Strong and weak

How great the power of sexual desire! How little we understand it. How hard it is to control. Sex has been making money for people for millennia and is a boom industry today—prostitution, pornography, escort services, and strip clubs just keep proliferating.

Sexual desire can make a man’s brain into mush and his muscles weak. Samson was chosen to be a judge in Israel, i.e., a charismatic military and social leader who would unite the people in faithfulness to the Lord. Though gifted with incredible divine strength, he carried around also serious weakness: “Some time later, he fell in love with a woman in the Valley of Sorek whose name was Delilah. The rulers of the Philistines went to her and said, ‘See if you can lure him into showing you the secret of his great strength and how we can overpower him’” (Judges 16:4,5).

Delilah made a puppy out of this mighty man. Entire platoons of Philistine soldiers could not subdue him, but his sexual weakness caused him to lose his powers. (Think I’m making this up? Read Judges 13–16.) Every child of God today in these troubled times needs to be alert to Satan’s terrible sexual assaults. Society today no longer helps us resist adultery and respect marriage.

Guys, be aware that your desires can make you brain-dead. Women, be careful with your sexual power. Remember who gave it to you.
