
Do you ever find it difficult to keep Jesus’ commands? Me too. I love the idea of being patient, forgiving, and humble, but when my kids are taking too long to get out the door or someone jumps to conclusions about my motives or a critical comment comes my way, doing what Jesus says feels almost impossible.
I think that’s why Jesus offered to help. The night before he died, Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth” (John 14:15-17). Jesus asked the Father to send the Spirit, the entire Trinity working together to help us prove our love for Jesus by keeping his commandments.
What a promise! The Spirit is “with you forever,” right at your side when you are tempted. He is an “advocate,” a voice that speaks to your heart about the love of Jesus and how supremely worthy he is of your obedience.
