During middle school, my church showed me a video of what happens during a late-term abortion. It was, as you can imagine, graphic enough to make an impression on my views on the subject. But since that seventh-grade day, I have learned a lot about the reasons why people choose that irreversible act.
Imagine a pregnancy when you barely know each other. When there are red flags with the father’s anger. When birth will bind you together with a verbally abusive monster. When you’re already depressed or currently addicted or can’t afford the kids you presently have. When your parents are demanding an abortion or your boyfriend is already out the door or your church has a history of judging single mothers. Or imagine—God forbid—that the pregnancy isn’t the result of a sin committed by the mother but a sin committed against the mother.
So, fellow follower of Jesus, what can we do? Here’s God’s answer—Be pro (every) life. Many Christians speak, post, and pray for life inside the womb. Today, God wants to encourage us not to just care about that life but about all the lives involved when someone is pregnant and didn’t plan it.
“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another” (1 John 4:11). It was the love of God that found us, saved us, and provided us eternal life at the cross of Jesus. May that same love inspire us to love every life involved in every pregnancy.
