The glory all around you

“This is one of the best moments of my life.” Those words ran through my head as I chased a baby sea turtle while snorkeling with my youngest daughter. Maya and I held hands and floated above one of God’s many magnificent creatures until the speckled-shell turtle swam within arm’s reach. My fingers grazed its back, and it dove to the seafloor for another mouthful of grassy lunch.

Wow! God is ridiculously good at his job, isn’t he? The angels were right, “The whole earth is full of [God’s] glory” (Isaiah 6:3). Notice the word whole. You don’t have to chase a sea turtle to experience the glory of God. Lie down in your backyard and watch the clouds billow by, remembering that God sweeps away your sins in the same way (Isaiah 44:22). Grab a coffee and watch the birds eat breakfast at your feeder, thinking of how much God loves creatures that he didn’t die for, which means he must love you infinitely more (Matthew 6). Watch your daughter’s expression as she explores the world, recalling that you are not just a servant but a child of God (1 John 3).

In a million ways every day, God is revealing his power, his kindness, his wisdom, his love, and his character. Take a moment today to be mindful of his glory. And thank Jesus that his glorious death and resurrection made that wonderful God your Father.
